2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI Hatchback

2022 VW Golf GTI vs. 2021 VW Golf GTI

Completely redesigned for the newest model year, the 2022 VW Golf GTI is the type of hatchback that appeals to the modern needs of the Denver Metro consumer. Packing a new powertrain setup and loaded with even more technology than the 2021 version of the vehicle, the 2022 Golf GTI is the pinnacle of sporty superiority. Fans of previous iterations of the Golf GTI will find the reimagined version of the hatchback a welcome evolution of their favorite vehicle.

Performance

The first notable difference between the 2021 Golf GTI and the 2022 version is the upgrade in its powertrain. With its turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine now powering the hatchback with 241 horsepower, the 2022 Golf GTI has a satisfying 13 horsepower increase from its 2021 counterpart. The standard transmission is still the familiar six-speed manual found in the previous version of the hatchback. An automatic seven-speed dual-clutch transmission is optional for drivers who prefer to have the vehicle do all of the gear shifting for them. The EPA-estimated fuel economy of the 2022 Golf GTI has also been improved from its 2021 counterpart. Now drivers get to appreciate 24 MPG city/34 MPG highway fuel economy numbers in the 2022 version of the Volkswagen.

Exterior & Interior Features

Design choices for the 2022 Golf GTI help it stand apart from its previous version. On the exterior, the LED headlights have been given a more refined appearance and fog lights are present in the lower front grille of the hatchback. However, the interior is where Volkswagen placed much of its attention towards evolving. Passengers will notice that the dashboard is completely different than what was found in the 2021 model year, as well as unique plaid upholstery. Speaking of the dashboard, there is now a dual-display setup installed on the area of the interior. Much like its previous version, convenience applications including both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across all models of the hatchback.

Safety Features

While many of the same standard driver-assistance technology features from the 2021 model year of the Golf GTI make their way into the 2022 version, there are a couple of previously optional ones that have become standard as well. This includes Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Assist to further enhance the suite of safety tools that every Golf GTI comes equipped with. These join the previously standard features such as Automatic Emergency Braking with added Pedestrian Detection to make sure the driver has a reduced likelihood of a frontal collision.
