2023 VW Golf GTI Compared to the 2022 VW Golf GTI

In the 2022 model year Golf GTI, the deluxe hatchback received a significant refresh from its previous counterparts. Now for the 2023 Volkswagen Golf GTI, the vehicle has been largely kept similar to its 2022 iteration. However, there is a new trim available to celebrate the hatchback’s big anniversary. This 40th Anniversary Edition trim level is a unique take on the Golf GTI that interested customers can opt for. It sits right above the base S trim in the family of sporty hatchbacks.  

Performance

Coming back for a second year of invigorating drives across Colorado, the turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine under the hood of the 2023 Golf GTI is the same as the one introduced in the 2022 iteration of the vehicle. Generating 241 horsepower of quality performance all across the Denver Metro area, the 2023 Golf GTI is more than capable of treating drivers to the energetic ride they want. The standard six-speed manual and available seven-speed automatic transmissions make their return to the hatchback as well for the 2023 model year. Being FWD, drivers get confident handling in a vast majority of Colorado road and weather conditions.   

Exterior Features

The new 40th Anniversary trim level of the 2023 Volkswagen Golf GTI is a special option for those who want to showcase their appreciation for the sporty hatchback. Tornado Red and Urano Gray are the two color options for the exterior of the trim, which are different than what is available for the standard trim options. Various exterior trim elements are painted in a striking black coloration to help make it stand out from the rest of the 2023 Golf GTI lineup. Along the bottom of the exterior, special badging denoting the 40th Anniversary edition of the hatchback is clearly visible. This specific trim also gets the 19-inch wheels that are normally found on the Autobahn trim level.  

Safety Features 

The same driver-assistance suite of systems found in the 2022 VW Golf GTI is back for the 2023 model year. This includes Front Assist which combines Forward Collision Warning and Automated Emergency Braking technology. This system also includes Pedestrian Detection for added protection. Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Assist are also carryovers from the previous model year. Select trims can also be equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control as the 2022 version of the hatchback could.
