The 2024 Taos comes in three distinct trims—S, SE, and SEL, catering to a range of preferences and needs. Every model is now equipped with standard IQ.DRIVE driver assistance technology, a significant advancement reflecting Volkswagen’s commitment to safety and convenience. Each trim level also features enhanced interior stitching, bringing an extra layer of sophistication to the interior aesthetics.

For those seeking more customization and advanced features, the SE models not only upgrade to dual-zone Climatronic automatic climate control but will also have an available SE Black package. This package, available later, will introduce a black roof, wheels, and other blackout exterior design elements, catering to those who prefer a more striking and stylish appearance.

Performance

All Taos models are powered by the 1.5-liter version of the EA211 turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Making 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, the engine offers a number of high-tech features designed to help produce outstanding fuel economy. It features Volkswagen’s modified version of the Miller cycle, where the intake valves are closed early in the induction stroke to help with fuel economy. For a turbocharged engine, it has a very high compression ratio of up to 11.5 to one.

Key features that help the Taos achieve a combination of low-speed torque and excellent fuel economy include:
—APS coated cylinder liners—whereby iron powder is plasma coated onto the cylinder block—that reduce friction between the cylinder liner and piston rings. This process has been localized in the North American Region.
—A map-controlled cooling module that warms the engine more quickly than the existing EA211 for efficiency and can control water flow in different parts of the engine.
—Variable Turbine Geometry (VTG). This is the first volume-production turbocharger with this technology in the North American Region. This turbo is more efficient, provides higher boost pressure, and avoids wastegate mass flow.
—A high-pressure injection system with up to 350 bar—up from 200 bar—which produces better atomization of the fuel/air mixture, a shorter injection time, optimized mixture formation, and lower particulate emissions. The upshot is excellent fuel consumption and driving characteristics.

The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission in the front-wheel-drive model, with a Sport mode. All Taos front-wheel-drive models feature an 8-speed automatic transmission and have EPA-estimated ratings of 28 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 31 mpg combined. Taos 4Motion® all-wheel-drive models feature a 7-speed DSG® dual-clutch automatic transmission and have EPA-estimated ratings of 24 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 27 mpg combined. All ratings are based on regular unleaded fuel.

Interior Features

The spacious interior of the Taos features modern design, premium fit and finish, and advanced technology. Thanks to its long wheelbase, the Taos has a roomy 99.5 cubic feet of passenger space—just 1.6 cu ft less than the two-row Tiguan. Front-wheel-drive models have 27.9 cu ft of luggage space behind the second-row seats and 65.9 cu ft with the second row folded down. All-wheel-drive models have 24.9 cu ft of space behind the second row and 60.2 cu ft when second row is folded. In addition to its generous cargo space, Taos offers plenty of room for all passengers, with 40.1 inches of legroom in the front and 37.9 in the rear.

Composed of clean lines, the contemporary cockpit clearly communicates the Volkswagen family connection. The designers gave the Taos a modern look by creating two separate levels on the dashboard. The top level has a décor element, which varies by trim and surrounds functional elements including the air vents and standard Volkswagen Digital Cockpit. The lower level provides a soft-touch surface, which runs the width of the interior and continues through the door panels on each side, surrounding the front passengers.

Across the lineup, creature comforts for drivers and passengers abound. Standard convenience features include automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, heated leatherette-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, and KESSY®-Go push-button start. SE models add full KESSY® keyless access, remote start, dual-zone Climatronic® automatic climate control, an 8-way power driver seat with lumbar, auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated front seats, heated side mirrors, heated washer nozzles, and privacy glass. SEL trims add ventilated front seats.

The 2024 Taos offers a conveniently connected experience. Taos S trims are equipped with the MIB2 Composition Color unit, which features a 6.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display. The infotainment system includes two USB-C ports with 45-watt fast charging and Bluetooth® technology for compatible devices.

SE and SEL Taos models are equipped with MIB3 infotainment with 8-inch glass-covered displays—SE with Composition Media and SEL with Discover Media with navigation. Connecting devices is easy with standard wireless App-Connect and wireless charging for compatible devices, and two USB-C ports in the center stack and one charge-only port in the storage console. All USB-C ports feature 45-watt fast charging. Both units feature Bluetooth technology for compatible devices, HD radio, and SiriusXM® with 360L (3-month Platinum Plan trial). With a Car-Net Hotspot subscription and Plus Nav Package, maps can be automatically updated with the most up-to-date traffic and construction information.

Safety Features

In Denver, where safety is a paramount concern for drivers, Volkswagen’s Taos offers a harmonious blend of active and passive safety systems designed to safeguard its occupants. This compact SUV comes equipped with six standard airbags: front and side airbags for front passengers and side curtain airbags for the outer seating positions. To reinforce its safety profile, the Taos is also laden with a plethora of electronic safety features, including an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and every model is equipped with a standard rearview camera.

Moreover, Volkswagen’s Taos is installed with the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System as a standard feature, acknowledging that collisions are often not instantaneous but a series of events following the initial impact. This innovative system activates the brakes post-collision, once it’s detected by the airbag sensors, mitigating the risk of subsequent impacts and potential additional damages. This feature stands out as particularly valuable for Denver’s drivers, who navigate varied terrains and weather conditions.

Adding another layer to its safety arsenal, the Taos is equipped with Volkswagen’s Intelligent Crash Response System. This intuitive system is designed to automatically shut off the fuel pump, unlock the doors, and activate the hazard lights if the car encounters specific types of collisions. It offers Denver residents peace of mind, especially during the winter months when road conditions can be precarious.

Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE® is a notable feature, offering advanced driver assistance technology that delivers hands-on semi-automated capability, a benefit for those navigating the bustling city streets and highways of Denver. Whether it’s maintaining lane centering on highways or alerting drivers to unforeseen obstacles around town, IQ.DRIVE is vigilant in promoting safer driving experiences.

For the 2024 model year, the IQ.DRIVE system has become a standard feature across all trims. The system’s advanced technology leverages front and rear radar, a front camera, and multiple ultrasound sensors to collect surrounding data, enabling a myriad of safety features like Travel Assist and Front Assist, enhancing the driving experience for residents throughout Denver.

Travel Assist offers semi-automated driving capability, ranging from 0 to 95 mph. It’s activated via a steering wheel button and utilizes Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Assist to steer, accelerate, and brake in response to traffic while maintaining the vehicle within the lane markings. It’s essential for drivers to remain attentive and maintain control of the vehicle while using Travel Assist, ensuring that they can navigate Denver’s diverse landscapes safely and efficiently. The feature’s incorporation of a capacitive steering wheel is critical in ensuring that the driver maintains hand contact with the wheel, reinforcing responsible usage of this advanced driving aid.

In conclusion, the myriad of safety features in Volkswagen’s Taos, including innovative collision response systems and advanced driving aids like IQ.DRIVE®, make it a suitable and reliable vehicle choice for Denver’s populace, adeptly catering to their diverse driving needs and ensuring peace of mind on the road.
