How Often Should I Rotate My Tires?
Tires take a serious beating throughout their lifespan. They bounce along the rough Aurora area roadways to keep your Volkswagen headed in the right direction, and that wears them out. Fortunately, you can minimize the effects of that wear and lengthen the life of your tires by having them rotated regularly at the Emich VW service center.
How Often Should I Get My Tires Rotated?
Every 6,000 to 8,000 miles is a good rule-of-thumb for tire rotations. That’s about the same interval as your recommended oil changes (every 5,000 to 7,000 miles) so it’s a good idea to request a tire rotation whenever you have your oil done.
While you drive, the different tires suffer different wear in different places, especially depending on if you have a front-wheel, rear-wheel, or all-wheel drive vehicle. By rotating the tires, those differences are compensated for, because each individual tire will receive an equal amount of time in each position.
For a rear-wheel drive car, the back tires are moved directly forward (rear driver-side becomes front driver-side; rear passenger-side becomes front passenger-side) while the current front tires are reversed in the back positions (front passenger-side become rear driver-side, etc).
On front-wheel drive cars, the two current front tires go directly back to the same positions on the back wheels (front driver-side to rear driver-side, etc.) while the rear tires swap when they move forward (rear passenger-side becomes front driver-side, etc).
On an all-wheel drive vehicle, all four tires swap positions and sides diagonally during a tire rotation: Front driver-side becomes rear passenger-side; front passenger-side become rear driver-side; rear driver-side becomes front passenger-side; and rear passenger-side becomes front driver-side.
