Updated October 2026
Why Denver Families Choose the Volkswagen Atlas
The all-new 2027 Atlas is Volkswagen’s biggest SUV, redesigned from the ground up for its second generation — a genuine three-row hauler with room for the whole family, the gear, and a trailer behind it. Every 2027 Atlas runs an updated 2.0L turbocharged engine making 282 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque — the most power ever offered in an Atlas — through an 8-speed automatic, with available 4MOTION® all-wheel drive with Active Control and dedicated Snow and Offroad modes for Colorado winters and mountain-town weekends.
Seat up to seven, fold the rows flat for up to 95.4 cubic feet of cargo, and tow up to 5,000 lbs on SE w/Technology trims and above. Inside, a standard 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro, a 12.9- or 15-inch touchscreen, real wood trim, and standard IQ.DRIVE® driver assistance make the Atlas as comfortable on the daily school run as on a ski trip to Summit County. At Emich Volkswagen we stock the 2027 Atlas across the lineup, and we still have 2026 models available with runout savings.
What’s New on the 2027 Atlas
The 2027 model year launches the second-generation Atlas, rebuilt on Volkswagen’s MQB evo platform and still assembled in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Every exterior panel is new: double-stacked LED headlights, a masked upper grille, cross-body taillights with three selectable animations, and dynamic turn signals on every trim. SE w/Technology and higher trims add an illuminated light bar and VW logos front and rear. The new Atlas is about an inch longer than before, with the same width, wheelbase, and height — so the roomy third row carries over.
Inside, a single sweeping dash loop ties together real wood trim, ambient lighting, the free-standing touchscreen, and a new Driver Experience Dial for volume, drive modes, and lighting “Atmospheres.” The shifter moves to the steering column to make room for a bigger console with two wireless charging pads, and a new front-center airbag brings the total to seven. Three new exterior colors — Sacramento Green, Blackberry, and Sandstone — round out the update.

Cargo That Grows With Your Weekend
Behind the third row there’s 21.2 cubic feet for the grocery run; drop the seats and the 2027 Atlas opens up to 95.4 cubic feet — enough for a full ski-and-snowboard load, camping gear for the whole crew, or a big-box haul. The sliding 60/40 second-row bench tilts forward even with a child seat installed, so the third row stays easy to reach.
Cargo volume in cubic feet, per Volkswagen of America. Seats up to 7 (or 6 with available second-row captain’s chairs on SE w/Technology and above).

Atlas vs. the Competition
How the all-new 2027 Atlas stacks up against the three-row SUVs Denver families cross-shop most. The V6-powered Palisade and Pilot still make slightly more horsepower, and the Palisade starts lower — but the Atlas is the only one of the three with a standard turbocharged engine, which holds its power better at Denver’s altitude, and all three tow up to 5,000 lbs when properly equipped.
| Vehicle | Starting MSRP* | Engine | Horsepower |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2027 Volkswagen Atlas | $41,610 | 2.0L Turbo | 282 |
| Hyundai Palisade | $39,735 | 3.5L V6 | 287 |
| Honda Pilot | $42,395 | 3.5L V6 | 285 |
*Manufacturer starting MSRPs, excluding destination. All three tow up to 5,000 lbs when properly equipped (Atlas: SE w/Technology and above). The Atlas is the only one of the three with a standard turbocharged engine. Manufacturer figures, subject to change.

A Cabin Built for the Whole Crew
The redesigned 2027 cabin puts a standard 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro in front of the driver and a free-standing 12.9-inch touchscreen (15 inches on SE w/Technology and up) at the center of the dash, with real wood trim, ambient lighting, wireless App-Connect, and dual wireless phone charging. The shifter moves to the steering column, freeing up a bigger center console.
Every 2027 Atlas includes heated and ventilated front seats, three-zone climate control, rear sunshades, and a new front-center airbag. Move up the lineup and you add Varenna or Nappa leather, ventilated second-row seats, a panoramic sunroof, a head-up display, and 14-speaker Harman Kardon® audio. Standard IQ.DRIVE® now includes Travel Assist with assisted lane changes — welcome on I-25 and I-70 alike.

Ready for Colorado

Available 4MOTION® all-wheel drive with Active Control adds dedicated Snow, Offroad, and Custom Offroad modes plus Hill Descent Control, so the Atlas stays planted on snow, ice, and unpaved trailhead roads. SE w/Technology and higher trims come with a factory hitch and 5,000 lbs of towing capacity — bring the trailer, the boat, or the pop-up camper.
With three rows, a turbocharged engine that keeps its punch at altitude, and a big-SUV footprint that still fits a Denver garage, the Atlas is the everyday family hauler that’s equally at home heading for the high country.
