Coming Soon: 2020 VW Atlas Cross Sport
Volkswagen has long been known for its sporty, sensible sedans and coupes like the iconic Beetle, Jetta, and Passat. But lately the brand has been scoring hits with SUVs like the well-loved Tiguan and Atlas.
It looks as if that success streak is going to continue, with the upcoming 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport. The 2020 Atlas Cross Sport fills the void left by the exit of the Touareg from the American market with a sporty and sophisticated 2-row, mid-size SUV.
This handsome midsize SUV can be outfitted with VW 4MOTION® all-wheel drive, and comes with either a 235-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine or a 276-hp 3.6-liter narrow-angle V-6, both mated to a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission. It can also tow a pretty impressive load, pulling up to 5,000 lbs when equipped with the V6.
There’s no indication yet for interior specifics, but it projects to resemble the comfortable, tech-packed cabin of the larger Volkswagen Atlas model, complete with smartphone connectivity, a great touchscreen system, available audio upgrades, and much more. The Atlas Cross Sport will be about 6 inches shorter than the full-size Atlas, but it doesn’t sacrifice leg or head room for passengers because it doesn’t pack in three rows of seating.
